First Three Chapter Critique (up to 60 double-spaced [ages): $275

Manuscript Critique (double-spaced):1-199 pages: $7.00 page 200+ pages: $6.00 per page

 

Unlike proofreading, a manuscript critique does not address grammar, punctuation, or other minor issues, except where they impact the larger story. A critique points out issues that might require substantial rewriting, while copy editing and proofreading deal with word-by-word corrections and fine-tuning. Both forms of editing are critical to completing a professional, polished, readable, appealing story.

The first three chapters of your work need to capture the attention of an  agent, editor or reader--enough to make them want to read the rest of your manuscript. The Three Chapter Critique evaluates your manuscript's first three chapters (up to 60 pages) and outlines the strengths and weaknesses in plot, characterization, voice, pacing, etc. The critique will be returned to you via email as an editorial letter and in-document Track-Changes comments.

 

Please be aware that the Critique may make you angry, or hurt your feelings, but EVERY writer needs a critic AND an editor (often the same person) and EVERY author has felt that very same way at ...one time or another. Despite what your loved ones think about your story, EVERY manuscript can be improved. Service fees are not refunded once editing has begun, or if you don’t like the critique. This is not an edit of your work; it is an evaluation.

 

First Three Chapter Turnaround is generally two weeks (or less depending on the volume of work we have at the time of your submission.)

Manuscript Critique Turnaround is generally four – six weeks (depending on the volume of work we have at the time of your submission.)

 

Content Editing $7.50/page (or $60/hour) (Substantive or developmental editing)

Is the theme or plot of the book well-developed and organized? Is there good story-telling and snappy dialog? Does the story move at a good pace? Are the characters original and believable? Are the sub-plots well-integrated? Are there contradictions, inconsistencies, factual errors or discrepancies? Is the book written for the right target market and will it grab attention?

Manuscript will be returned with suggestions to re-write, move, delete or add sections using Track Changes Comments. This editing involves a lot of thought and decision-making. Copy editing and proofreading are generally more rules-based.

Copy Editing $5/page (or $45/hour)

Check written material for grammar, spelling, style, and punctuation issues before it’s prepared for proofreading using in document Track Changes. May also include sentence rewrite, if necessary, to fix any problems with transitions, wordiness, jargon, and style.

Proofreading $4/page (or $30/hour) 

If your work is finished or almost completed so we will search for typographical errors, minor text and formatting. Errors are corrected using Track Changes.

Check web content material for grammar, spelling, style, typos, format and punctuation issues. May also include rewrite, if necessary, to fix any problems with transitions, wordiness, jargon, and style.
